The Town
Run.
Every Saturday they come in off the back roads... utes, dogs, lists. Stocking up in town is a Hawke's Bay tradition older than the shops themselves, and the WestSide is where the practical end of it lives. Here's the run, planned properly... what to get where, what's new since last time, and the hours that make the order matter.

Heretaunga West & the side streets
There's a rhythm to it. In from Ongaonga or Pōrangahau or the Napier back blocks, park once, work the list, feed the crew, home before dark. The WestSide has quietly become the practical end of that run... and if you haven't been in for a while, it's grown. Plan it right and one park covers the lot: Park'n'Shop will put you by your first stop.
The Trick That Starts the Run
Before anything else: if a phone in the household has a cracked screen, drop it at the repair row FIRST... six specialist shops, walk-in, and simple jobs are often done same-day. Do the run, collect it fixed on the way out. That's a 40-minute trip saved next month.
The Practical Anchors
Three doors do the heavy lifting on a stock-up run, and none of them are on the main drag. That's the point... they're on the side streets, where the parking is free and the loading is easy.
308 Eastbourne St West · Mon–Fri 9am–5pm · Sat 9am–3pm
The horse-and-country stop... tack and saddlery across bridles, saddles, halters and bits, a proper wall of horse covers and rugs from paddock to stable, feed and supplements for horses and farm animals, and gear for the dogs... covers, collars, leads and grooming. Riding boots too, from jodhpur to long to western. One street back from the main strip, which means easy parking right outside.

"I love the girls in here. So obliging and helpful... I must just about have shares!!" — Narelle
106 Nelson St South · Mon–Fri 8:30am–5pm · Sat 9am–1:30pm
Hunting, fishing and the outdoors done by people who live it... rifles new and used, optics, ammunition, rods and reels and tackle, outdoor clothing, hunting and tramping boots, camping gear. Famous for fitting you with the right gear rather than the most expensive gear, and for custom rifle expertise reviewers name-check by name. Note the early Saturday close and plan accordingly. Bring the kids... the taxidermy display is a genuine event.

"Love these guys. Always super helpful and trying to get you into the right gear, not the most expensive. Great aftermarket service too. Knowledgeable, helpful and keen. I try to buy from them whenever I can." — Edwin
308 Queen St West · Mon–Sat 9am–5pm
The bulk stop... a grocery clearance floor built for pantry-scale buying. Bulk groceries, canned goods, meats, bakery, dairy, fruit and veges, all at clearance prices because the stock is rescued surplus rather than full-freight retail. This is the freight-beater: the internet can't courier heavy for free, and the boot of the car doesn't charge by the kilo. If you're driving an hour each way anyway, fill the space.

The country comes to town,
and the town's ready.
The Errands the Country Can't Do Anymore
Here's the quiet truth of rural Hawke's Bay: the services left town first. Bank branches have been retreating from the small towns for years... which makes the WestSide's bank row (ANZ, ASB, Kiwibank, SBS, all within two blocks) a bigger part of the run than anyone says out loud. Stack the rest while you're here: eyes tested at Specsavers, keys cut at Lockwise, trousers taken up at Shammi's or Ebony Knights, a walk-in cut at any of three barbers... Uptown opens 6:45am on a Saturday, which tells you exactly who they open for.

The Run, Planned
One Park. One List. One Afternoon.
- Saturday morning is the window. Rivers to Ranges shuts 1:30pm Sat, Saddlery 3pm: practical stops BEFORE lunch, browsing after.
- Park once. Park'n'Shop names your spot.
- Drop the cracked phone first, collect it last.
- Check the day live before you leave home: What's Open Right Now.
- Feed the crew. Lunch on the strip, or time the run home around Gengy's opening at 5:30.
- Coming in Sunday instead? Thirty-plus doors still open... but not the rural anchors, so Saturday's the one.
